How to Know if Your Incontinence Product Isn’t Right for You
Have you ever wondered if your incontinence products are the best for your needs? Read on to learn the things to look out for.
Bodies come in all shapes and sizes, and there is not one singular continence aid design that will suit every body type.
Since many have to navigate through a variety of options, traditionally without much guidance, it can require a bit of trial and error to find out which product works the best for your needs and situation.
Here are some signs that your incontinence product may not be right for you.
The product slips down when wet, leaks or gapes at the leg
If you experience any of the above when wearing your incontinence aids, it can be a sign that the product is too big.
Incontinence products perform their best when the fit is snug to the body (without being uncomfortable or restrictive), so they can effectively lock in and absorb any liquid without unwanted leaks.
Make sure to measure your waist and hips and check the size guide to get an idea of which size would best fit you before purchasing.
Remember that we have our Invizi Fit Promise, so if you order the wrong size from us, simply contact us and we can exchange the item for the right size or refund your purchase.
The product irritates or leaves marks on the skin
If your incontinence product is uncomfortable, tight, or leaves marks on your skin, it’s probably too small. It should be snug but not too tight.
Be sure to measure your waist and hips and compare them to the size chart to find the right size.
If your skin feels irritated even though the product is the right size, it might be time to change it. Wearing wet incontinence products for a long time can increase the risk of skin irritation.
The product isn't the right absorbency level for your needs
It’s important to choose an incontinence product that’s the right size and has the right absorbency for your level of need.
If you have light leakage, a pad or guard should be enough. You don’t necessarily need pants or a slip, which are bigger and more expensive.
If you have moderate leakage and are still mobile, pants can be a comfortable option. They look and feel like regular underwear and come in different sizes and absorbencies.
If you have heavy leakage, have limited mobility, or care for someone who does, slips might be a good choice. They can hold larger amounts of urine, and bowel incontinence, and are easy to change.
Don’t try to double up on products to get more protection. It’s better to choose a product with a higher maximum capacity.
The product isn't right for your incontinence type
Some people only experience urinary incontinence, while others can experience bowel incontinence or both at the same time.
Not all incontinence products offer suitable protection for bowel incontinence and should have good coverage at the back to contain any soiling, so make sure you read the description of the product to see if it mentions suitability for bowel incontinence.
We know it can sometimes be tricky to find the product that works for you - but that’s where we come in!
