So, you're wearing incontinence products like pants, slips, pads, or guards. That's great! These can really help you feel comfortable and confident.

But did you know that having a little kit of accessories can make a big difference too?

In this article, we'll talk about five incontinence accessories we recommend keeping in your kit.

Everyone's different, so you can choose to have all or just some of these items. It's totally up to you!

Wet wipes for incontinence

Wet wipes are a must-have for people with incontinence. They're great for keeping your skin clean and comfortable.

As you probably know, accidents can happen, and they can be really irritating. Wet wipes are a gentle way to clean yourself without causing more problems.

Unlike regular toilet paper, wet wipes are already wet and often have soothing ingredients like aloe vera or chamomile. This helps to clean your skin thoroughly and gently, without causing friction or irritation.

Plus, they’re super convenient! You can keep them at home and take them with you wherever you go. Our Dailee Microwaveable Body Wipes are so great because you can gently warm thing in the microwave for those cooler days and nights!

Remember, all wet wipes are single-use and need to be disposed of after use - and avoid flushing them as this can cause plumbing blockages.

Medical grade gloves

Some people might think gloves are unnecessary, but they should actually be a must-have for anyone caring for someone with incontinence.

When you're helping someone change their incontinence products or with toileting, you'll need to handle things that aren't very pleasant. Gloves protect you and help keep everything clean.

Don't just grab any old gloves. You need to make sure they're gentle on your skin and won't break, that’s why we recommend medical grade gloves.

Hand sanitiser

Ensuring you’re washing your hands after each continence aid change and trip to the bathroom is non-negotiable.

It not only maintains proper hygiene, but stops the spread of harmful bacteria and germs.

We know that sometimes hand soap may not be easily accessible (in a public bathroom for example), or you may be in a scenario without running water, so having hand sanitiser in your kit is a great idea.

Ensuring you choose a hand sanitiser with at least 60% alcohol content will ensure you’re removing germs and bacteria as effectively as possible.

It’s recommended by health professionals to always opt for handwashing with soap over using hand sanitiser for the most effective cleaning, however, hand sanitiser is a great backup!

Barrier cream

Barrier cream is essential for your incontinence kit. This product will act as your skin’s protective shield against prolonged exposure to moisture and irritants from urine and stool.

This prolonged contact could otherwise cause skin breakdown, redness, and discomfort and lead to conditions like incontinence associated dermatitis.

Applying a barrier cream to your skin prevents irritants from penetrating it and causing damage. Barrier creams typically contain ingredients such as zinc oxide or dimethicone, which soothe, moisturise, and create a protective layer.

Speak to your GP or pharmacist about which barrier creams you should use if you’re unsure.

We hope you’ve found this article helpful! Remember, this is generic advice only and for personalised health or medical advice you should seek guidance from a professional.
